"Military-grade" and "military-tested" are the two phrases nearly every phone case brand uses — but MIL-STD-810G is a Department of Defense test method, not a product certification any agency issues or checks. A brand can test to it, claim to test to it, or just use the phrase, and nothing outside the company verifies which. We fetched five brands' own current pages directly and found real, named drop-height claims to compare — from 4 feet to 16 feet, all called some version of "military" — plus one major brand whose own page states no foot figure at all.

Same phrase, a 4x spread Pelican's own page claims 16 feet. Spigen's own page claims 4 feet — a quarter of that. Both use the word "military" to describe the claim. Nothing about the word itself tells you which number you're getting.

One company, two different numbers Case-Mate makes and sells phone cases under its own name and, under license, Pelican's. Its own Case-Mate-branded Tough Black states 10ft drop protection. Its own Pelican-branded Protector states 16ft — 6 feet more, from the same company, on the same kind of case.

OtterBox: a claim with no feet in it

OtterBox's own page never states an absolute drop height. Instead it states a multiplier — Defender Series Pro XT "7X," Frē and Sole Series "5X," Symmetry and Commuter Series "3X" — of "the drops required by the military specifications," without ever stating on that page what those specifications actually require. Several independent sources, including Spigen's own page above and a Caseology claim quoted directly by pocketnow.com, converge on "4 feet, 26 drops" as that baseline — which would put OtterBox's own top claim at roughly 28 feet if that baseline is right — but this page does not compute that, because OtterBox itself never states the baseline, and we could not independently confirm it by reading the primary MIL-STD-810G text this session (the PDF would not render as text through this session's fetch tool). Inventing OtterBox's number from an unconfirmed baseline would be exactly the kind of unverified figure this site does not publish, so OtterBox is named here and left out of the ranked comparison above.

What this does not do

It compares one representative model per brand, not every case each brand sells — brands with several tiers (Speck's Presidio CLEAR line states 8ft, for instance, against Presidio's own 10ft) publish more than one figure, and this page cites the flagship line's own stated number, not every variant.
These are brand marketing claims, not a repeated, independent test in one shared lab under shared conditions. Only Speck's own page states that a third party did the testing; the other four name no tester at all.

It does not tell you whether a higher stated number means a case is actually tougher — only what each brand's own current page claims, in the brand's own words.
