Standing Desk Weight Capacity Comparator
Every standing desk states a weight capacity. What that number applies to — the whole desk with a tabletop, a bare frame, one motor stage or three — is where brands stop lining up. We fetched four brands' own current pages directly and found the gap is large enough to matter before you even add a monitor arm.
UPLIFT's own figure is more than double IKEA's own figure, for the same kind of desk.
UPLIFT's own blog post states its standard 2-leg dual-motor frame "supports an impressive 355 lb
capacity." IKEA's own current IDÅSEN product page states a "Max. load" of 154 lb for the complete
desk. Neither figure comes from a discontinued or entry-level product — both are each brand's own
current, ordinary standing desk.
IKEA's own two pages for the same desk line disagree with each other.
IKEA sells the IDÅSEN both as a complete desk and as a bare underframe you pair with your own
tabletop. The complete-desk page states "Max. load 154 lb." The underframe-only page — same
product line, fetched the same day — states "Max. load 165 lb." Neither page explains the 11 lb
gap, and removing a tabletop would ordinarily be expected to lower a desk's total capacity for
what you can put ON it, not raise the frame's own stated rating.
Every stated figure, unfiltered
This table doesn't depend on what you typed above — every figure this page cites, straight from each brand's own current page.
| Brand | Model | Their own stated capacity | Their own note |
|---|---|---|---|
| UPLIFT | V2, 2-Leg (dual motor) | 355 lb | their own stated "355 lb capacity thanks to dual precision drive motors" |
| UPLIFT | V2, 3-Leg/4-Leg | 535 lb | their own stated "535 lb capacity with precision-drive motors in each leg" |
| Vari | Electric Standing Desk 60x30 | 200 lb | their own spec table, stated plainly as "Weight Capacity: 200lb" |
| Autonomous | SmartDesk Core, 2-Stage | 250 lb | their own stated capacity for the 2-Stage dual-motor frame |
| Autonomous | SmartDesk Core, 3-Stage | 310 lb | their own stated capacity for the 3-Stage frame |
| IKEA | IDÅSEN, complete desk | 154 lb | their own "Max. load" figure for the complete desk, tabletop included |
| IKEA | IDÅSEN, underframe only | 165 lb | their own "Max. load" figure for the bare frame — 11 lb higher than IKEA’s own complete-desk figure above, on IKEA’s own separate page |
What this does not do
- It compares specific named models per brand, not every standing desk each one sells.
- No source fetched for this tool distinguishes static (stationary) capacity from dynamic (while the desk is actively raising or lowering) capacity — most pages state one number with no such split, so this tool checks only the single figure each brand publishes, not a separate moving-load rating.
- Whether a brand's stated figure already includes the desktop's own weight is not stated on any page fetched for this tool, except IKEA's, and IKEA's own two pages disagree with each other about it (see above). If you're buying a frame and tabletop separately, add the tabletop's own weight to what you enter above — this tool cannot know it for you.
- It is not a structural safety recommendation. These are each brand's own marketing or support copy, not an independent load test, and none of the figures here account for uneven loading, leaning on the desk, or wear over years of use.
