Cooler Ice Retention Claim Comparator

Last updated 2026-08-17

Every cooler brand's "how many days will this hold ice" answer is a marketing claim, not an independent test — and the brands don't even agree on how to state one. We fetched Igloo, ORCA and Engel's own current pages directly and found real, named numbers to compare. We also fetched YETI's own FAQ, which does something none of the others do: it explicitly refuses to put a number on it, citing "the lack of an industry standard for measuring ice retention."

What Igloo's own number actually measures Igloo's own FAQ states its lab test runs a sealed cooler at 90°F ambient and stops the clock "when the ice reaches 39°F and begins to melt" — not when the ice is gone. A federal class action filed against Igloo in 2020 (Chung et al. v. Igloo Products Corp., E.D.N.Y., docket 1:20-cv-04926) argues that measuring to 39°F rather than 32°F overstates how long the ice itself actually lasts. This page reports Igloo's own stated claim either way — the dispute over what that claim measures is real and unresolved, not something we can settle here.

YETI: the one brand with no row above

YETI's own FAQ (confirmed on its UK and Australia storefronts; its primary .com domain blocked direct fetching this session) states: "claims that place a definite time (5, 10, 14 days) are often based on testing conditions and not real-life situations," and that ice retention depends on "ice quality, ice quantity, type of ice... outside environment, exposure to direct sunlight" and more. YETI sells coolers with up to 3 inches of insulation but will not attach a day count to them — which, read next to the other four brands here confidently stating one, is its own kind of finding.

Every claim, every brand, unfiltered

This table doesn't depend on what you typed above — it's every figure this page cites, straight from each brand's own page.

What this does not do

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. The wetsuit thickness comparator found the same "named brands' own current guides disagree" shape in a different market. The umbrella wind rating comparator found the same "one major brand states no number at all" shape a second time, in patio umbrellas rather than coolers. The insulated drinkware temperature retention comparator checks a related but sharper gap in personal tumblers and bottles — most brands' day/hour claims never say what temperature they mean at all.
